In this episode, Rich and Natasha share some powerful strategies to help you design your perfect day, including how to get MORE out of day while feeling less stressed and more balanced!
Hey, everybody. Welcome to the Design Your Best Life Podcast. This is episode 24.
Today, we're going to be talking about the magic of discipline. So this is how this episode came about. This morning during Natasha's quiet time, a time in the morning where Natasha can start to reflect on things that are needed for the days lessons and things to think about. Today Natasha was feeling very scattered and had tons of different things that needed to be accomplish. Overwhelm was a thought that was quickly approaching.
What was placed on Natasha's heart was the concept of a Million dollar day.
"If I was going to have my million dollar day, the most perfect day where I felt in control, where I felt like I was the master of my day, where the day didn't run me, I ran the day where I felt like I was present in all the different areas of my life. What would that day look like? And it really, made me realize that when I am feeling very scattered, it is because I am not being disciplined. And I have to tell you, I hate the word discipline Rich and I have different views. And so we'll probably talk about that for me. I feel like being disciplined"
Tune in for this fun conversation with Natasha and Rich on today's episode!
KEY POINTS:
[00:03:51] RICHARD: Well, it was just talking about the power of creating a vision and how everything that you're thinking. And doing in your life right now is, [00:04:00] is actively designing your future life. So goes along kind of what we were talking about with, with the whole thing with magnets, about how, if you have the opposite poles of a magnet, they'll stick together. And if you flip them over and they're the same, then they'll repel. Each other. This book was talking about. How we're basically walking through our life as magnets for what we want or repelling things based on the thoughts that we're putting in our head and the visions we're creating our head. If we're constantly focusing on negative things, you know, it's along the same lines of the law of attraction and all of that, but it's just using the magnet analogy, I guess, or metaphor the symbol of the magnet being actually one thing he talked about, let me back up is you can take a non-magnetic like screwdriver and rub the magnet on the [00:05:00] screwdriver, and then it will magnetize for a short period of time. And you can use that to like pick up iron filings or whatever. And so that's kind of an example of. Well, who we are as magnets for what we want. We're we're basically we have the ability to either be charged, to be a magnet, to attract the things that we want by putting visions and thoughts and speaking out loud, what we want and living into exactly what we want. Or we can go the other way, where we just have no magnetic power to attract what we want and actually the opposite be getting what we don't want by being negative, focusing on all the things that are going wrong, being stressed or anxious or jealous, or any of the negative types of emotions that we don't want.
[00:09:49] NATASHA: That's what the magic we want to hear. Isn't it y'all we wanted to hear that Rich was so excited, so happy to be here. Sometimes we've got to jumpstart our [00:10:00] routine because it can be so easy when you're out of momentum, especially like, for example, we're talking about like an eating habit. You can be so regimented with your. Eating habits. Let's say you're trying to lose weight. And then all of a sudden you fall off the wagon one day and oh, it's just one day. And then before you know it it's, well, I'll get back tomorrow and then, well, you see something really good and you're like, well, I'm just going to go ahead and splurge on this day. I'll start the next day. And before you know it a week, Two weeks a month has gone by and it's because you're out of momentum and it's so easy to forget how amazing it feels when you do have those disciplines. It's the same thing with exercise. It's the same thing with work habit. And so that's really, I think the magic of discipline is like, you're actually going to feel better when you are moving through your day. With intention and you can actually start to [00:11:00] focus on the things that you want. Because that's what, and that's what you're talking about with the magnet. Like you want to set up just letting the day run you instead of just floating around like a plastic bag in the breeze with whichever fire is calling out your name, you move forward and you say this, these are the things that I want to accomplish.
[00:13:38] NATASHA: That is an RSA we're talking about with RSA check out one of our earliest podcast episodes, where we talk about RSA ridiculously small action steps versus tan. Take action now, anyways, it's amazing how often RSA and tan come into. Come into the conversation. I wanted to come up [00:14:00] with specific categories in specific time periods and what was so interesting as I added up all these times so that I could have a, the perfect day, my million dollar day, where I felt like a million bucks. I got everything done that I wanted to get done. And you all, it only added up to 21.5 hours to do everything that I wanted to do. So I had like extra, an extra, what is that? Two and a half hours. Is that right? Three and a half. Yeah, two and a half hours. I was like, whoa, this is amazing. So then I started actually scheduling it starting at five 30 in the morning, and I just couldn't believe how much time. I actually had, now I will admit what was not on there. Mindlessly scrolling Facebook for three hours. Like that was not on the list. I did have 30 minutes of social media time so that I could interact with people and be present, but I'm going to be in and out [00:15:00] on a timer and it felt so amazing.
[00:00:00] NATASHA: Today, the craziest thing happened. I was off doing my own work Rich is in the house doing his own work. And we both came to the exact same conclusion. We were both studying the exact same thing and didn't even know it. And so it was only fitting that we did today's podcast about this. It's how to set yourself up for success every single day. Are you ready? Here we go.
[00:00:34] RICHARD: Are you ready to get the clarity, confidence, and strategy you need to design your best life. I'm Richard Hayzlett
[00:00:40] NATASHA: and I'm Natasha Hayzlett. If you're ready to experience abundance in all areas of your life, then you're in the right place. Each week on this podcast, we're going to share with you the tools we've used to help thousands of people find their purpose and live their life by design.
[00:00:56] RICHARD: So if you're ready to start the journey, head over to design your best [00:01:00] life.com and download your clarity roadmap. When this episode is over.
[00:01:06] Hey, everybody. Welcome to the design, your best life podcast. I'm Richard Hayzlett. This is episode 24. Today, we're going to be talking about the magic of discipline, and that's very fitting today since Natasha strong armed me into doing this podcast episode about 20 minutes ago. So you want to set the context for how we arrived at that?
[00:01:26] NATASHA: Oh my gosh. I don't know that I would phrase it as strong arming, but instead merely strongly suggesting. So this is how this episode came about. This morning I was in quiet time, and this is a time every morning where I can start to reflect on things that I need for the day lessons, things to think about. And as I came to quiet time this morning, I was feeling very [00:02:00] scattered. I had tons of different things that I needed to accomplish. And I was quickly approaching the dreaded O word overwhelm. And so I sat down in quiet time and what was placed on my heart was the concept of a. Million dollar day. If I was going to have my million dollar day, the most perfect day where I felt in control, where I felt like I was the master of my day, where the day didn't run me, I ran the day where I felt like I was present in all the different areas of my life. What would that day look like? And it really. Made me realize that when I am feeling very scattered, it is because [00:03:00] I am not being disciplined. And I have to tell you, I hate the word discipline Rich and I have different views. And so we'll probably talk about that for me. I feel like being disciplined sounds don't know harsh.
[00:03:11] RICHARD: You got in trouble?
[00:03:13] NATASHA: Yeah like I got in trouble. Versus going through the day with intention. So then I walk inside after having sketched out my million dollar day and how I'm going to be. Time-blocking my days moving forward. And I'll talk more about that. And Rich's opening up a book and reading and he shares, something that was pretty much the same thing that I came to the same conclusion that I came to, which was about being intentional or disciplined in your day. So what were you reading about? Like, what was the lessons that you got from this morning?
[00:05:52] NATASHA: All right. So how does that tie into the concept of discilpline
[00:05:58] RICHARD: when you have [00:06:00] order in your life where you're working on specific things for specific amounts of time that are like, for example, you make time to exercise. You make time to read positive things or learn or increase your education on certain topics. You spend time with loved ones, you do work in your business or at your job set, like in a specific time, all those things start to grow on top of each other and you're getting better and better. So you're, you're attracting more of what you want by becoming a better version of yourself through the implementation of daily discipline. And those, those, they grow on each other. Like as you do more, you get more and more results in a positive way from the more the more disciplines you're putting into your life on a regular basis, the more the snowball effect starts [00:07:00] to happen, where you just, it gets bigger and bigger and bigger momentum. Is going faster and faster down the hill at with a bigger snowball, you know, like we talked about your old example of the success snowball,
[00:07:13] NATASHA: so it's really easy. And this is what we were talking about before the podcast. It's so easy to not be disciplined. It's so easy to allow your mind to wander. It's so easy to get out of a routine and just kind of go with the flow almost like it's a vacation. And actually, that's why it's very hard for me to unwind at the beginning on a vacation, because I do prefer a little bit more of a routine. And so that's hard when we come back from vacation to get back into our daily habits.
[00:07:56] RICHARD: I got it I got it. You just need a, to do list number [00:08:00] one, relax on your vacation.
[00:08:03] NATASHA: That's right.
[00:08:03] RICHARD: You said you're a beast when you have a to-do list. You like to be able to check off those boxes. you know That gives you like a dopamine rush when you check off the, the, the things that you've accomplished.
[00:08:17] NATASHA: Yeah. In fact, I actually just coached some of our inner circle members in how to have an active rest period, but I'm gonna save that for a totally different podcast episode. It was absolute magic on how to intentionally rest when it comes back to. Having an intention and making a decision that you are ready to be intentional about your day. And so this comes back to quote unquote, strong arming you into this podcast, because this is a commitment that we've made to our amazing listeners to show up for y'all each week. And it's so [00:09:00] easy for us. To say, you know, we've got all these other things that we need to be doing at any on any given day. We've got a lot of responsibilities. Let's do the podcast episode tomorrow. Let's push it off to the next day. And so that's when I said no. This is the perfect topic for the podcast. It's the perfect demonstration of it that you've got to. Sometimes you have to just force yourself into it. How does it feel right now?
[00:09:28] RICHARD: Well, you know, it's not that I didn't want to do the podcast. It's just, normally we set a time in the beginning of the week to say, all right, we're going to do the podcast at this time. You just happened to have a conversation with me. And then at the end of it, you said, okay, all right, great. Let's go have the, let's go do the episode. Right. So I'm happy to be here.
[00:11:19] RICHARD: Literally, this is how the whole RSA, ridiculously small actions started was looking at. Getting certain disciplines set in motion, no matter how small, because then you do get that. Like, let's say you make a list and you've got exercise and time to read and time to spend time with family and all those things. Even if you are only able to do them at a very small level initially. You still get the benefit of checking off that list and building that momentum. And as that, the stacking of those disciplines keeps compounding over time. The [00:12:00] results end up being phenomenal.
[00:12:03] NATASHA: Yeah. And you know, for me, this is what I took from my quiet time today. I want to just share with you some discoveries that I had today. So I started off. When I realized, you know what, I feel like I'm not in a routine that is setting me up for success each and every day with all the different hats that I'm wearing as a, a mom, as a wife, as a business owner, as a teacher, all the things that I do. And so I went and I, I wrote down my ideal day, like how many hours or how many minutes I would want to spend. On each given thing. So I had, for example, you know, an hour of time, quiet time, devotional time, 30 minutes of reading or watching a [00:13:00] training on personal growth. I had, you know, several hours with our children. I had a specific amount of time for the operations of our company, which is different from. Time for marketing or time for coaching. So I started laying out all of these different things that I wanted to have a minimum of seven hours of sleep. And another little block that I wanted was a minimum of three minutes of movement. So what is movement?
[00:13:32] RICHARD: Three minutes,
[00:13:33] NATASHA: three minutes. And so that was about the time of one song
[00:13:36] RICHARD: that', thats', called an RSA or right there.
[00:15:03] RICHARD: Did You schedule time for making a mess around the house.
[00:15:06] NATASHA: I scheduled an hour for cleaning up the mess around the house
[00:15:14] RICHARD: implementation of disciplines. And then also making sure what you're focusing on is staying on target with where you want to go, what you actually want, that you know, which is in and of itself a discipline. I think that it is one of the ones that anytime I start to get into that space of Starting to doubt how things are going or get a little bit anxious about, oh, we've got all these different things going on, releasing that thought. And then going back to, what do I want to occur out of this situation? And focusing on that is kind of like a way to recalibrate the, you know, when you're, when you're starting to get feeling like you were talking about [00:16:00] overwhelmed. I think that's the key. Implementing the discipline of intentional thought, just like having an intentional day, having an intentional thought patterns that you control, because that literally is the one thing that we have ultimate control over is what we spend our time thinking about. And it's so powerful that it can change the entire course of our lives.
[00:16:25] NATASHA: Absolutely. And think about on top of once you have decided, you know, this is what I want. Ask yourself, this really powerful question. What would it take to blank? Whatever your intention is, what would it take to blank? Because what that does is that all of a sudden turns your brain into problem solving mode. I remember one of our clients eons ago said your brain is a thinking device. It's not a storage device. I was like, mind blown. This [00:17:00] makes so much sense. I am always using my brain as a storage device. No wonder. Was feeling so overwhelmed. Right. I had all these things floating around in my head. So when you clear all that out and you start to use your brain as a thinking device, what would it take to, and then what your positive intention is? All of a sudden, you're going to start to get that next step. And don't worry about like the 10 million steps that might have to come after that. Or 10 steps or five steps or whatever. What is the next step and put that on your to-do list. That's the thing that you want to focus on, get it done. The next step will be revealed and the next step after that. And then before you know it you're in forward momentum. You've got to start thinking about how do you want to feel, start to set that intention and what would it take to get me there? And then also connect. Designing your own million dollar day. I [00:18:00] promise you, you are going to be blown away at how abundant your time truly is. It's so easy to say. I don't have time for this. I don't have time for that yet. When we are intentional about our time. All of a sudden, it becomes way more abundant
